Healthy Eating Habits Workshop

Wednesday, May 297:00—8:00 PM3rd floor meeting hallTOHP Burnham 30 Martin St, Essex, MA, 01929

Join Alice Chien, technology expert, long-time dieter, and owner of FeastByFist, for a workshop on building healthy eating habits through mindfulness practices and technology.

Starting from a young age, Chien experienced strong social pressure on the ideal body weight, especially prominent in Asian countries. She tried various fad diets and successfully lost 40+ pounds in 6 months and kept it off for over 20 years. However, the extremely restrictive diet to lose and maintain weight has come with a cost of physical issues and emotional stress. After multiple gestational diabetes diagnoses, she realized the dieting mindset is toxic and unsustainable and to maintain a healthy body and mind, one must learn to listen to the body and cultivate a positive attitude towards food.

In this workshop, Chien will share several vital lessons she has learned from working with local nutritionists and her work at FeastByFist--lessons that helped her find peace with her body and food. Her talk will cover tips on improving physical and emotional health, comparisons of different weight-loss methods, and common pitfalls to watch out for. Chien's insightful presentation will be followed by an exercise for the audience to find their affirmations and a special gift to take home.

About the Presenter: Alice Chien is a technology executive, health and food enthusiast, and mother of three. She was the recipient of Boston Business Journal 40 Under 40 in 2017. Chien's work and career have appeared in several newspapers, magazines, and awards including EE World Online, Minority Engineer, and Energy Star Award for Sustained Excellence. She has a Bachelor's degree in Physics and a Doctorate in Optical Engineering and is the founder of FeastByFist, the world's first mobile technology company to use Augmented Reality to educate people about healthy portion sizes. Outside of work, you can find her practicing yoga at the YMCA, taking her 4-year-old daughter to the playground, and trying different restaurants around Boston.
